PrintIT! Announces New Chairman for 2011

Proskills, the Sector Skills Council for the process and manufacturing industries, has announced that Tony Lock, Managing Director of Duplo UK, is the new Chairman of PrintIT!. He takes over from Wayne Barlow, Director Professional Print of Canon UK, who took on the baton from Heidelberg’s George Clarke last year. The official handover took place during the PrintIT! 2011 Awards Ceremony on the last day of Northprint 2011

PrintIT! Announces Winning Entries at Northprint 2011

Overall Winner praised for ‘over delivering’ in all aspects of coursework

One of the highlights at the recent Northprint exhibition was the awards ceremony for the PrintIT! 2010/11 Competition, the sixth annual PrintIT! awards, which this year resulted in more than 16,700 students from 350 schools registering to take part. The event recognised the determination and hard work of the thousands of participating students and attracted a wide range of industry figures, sponsors and supporters of PrintIT! as well as the finalist students, their parents and teachers. Nur Nurmahomed, a student at Beauchamp College in Leicestershire, took top honours, beating off an extremely high level of competition entries to be declared the overall winner of PrintIT! 2011. Nur was presented with an Apple iPad 2, as well as an expenses paid trip to Germany courtesy of manroland, to visit its Print Technology Centre and manufacturing facility in Offenbach, where the manroland Sheetfed presses are built.

Tough Decisions - PrintIT! Select Finalists for Awards Ceremony at Northprint

A panel of printing industry representatives joined The Fairtrade Foundation and Proskills at Canon UK’s London-based showroom recently to shortlist the finalist entries and category winners for the PrintIT! 2010/11 Competition. This year, over 16,700 students from 350 schools across the country registered to take part in PrintIT! Following an initial first phase selection from all the student workbooks entered, the industry judging panel was tasked with selecting three finalist submissions for each of the seven prize categories.

Industry Heavyweights Reaffirm Golden Commitment to PrintIT! as Students Embark on Sixth Project Year

PrintIT!, the industry-backed initiative led by Proskills, has again confirmed substantial sponsorship commitment from an impressive number of industry heavyweights for its sixth year in succession. More than 35 print, paper and related organisations, as well as a range of trade associations and media partners have pledged their ongoing support to the project, which introduces GCSE students to many different aspects of print, and encourages them to consider a future career in the industry.

The Print Industry Hails First PrintIT! Scotland Awards a Triumph

The inaugural PrintIT! Scotland Awards Ceremony took place on the afternoon of the 12th November in the Banqueting Suite of South Lanarkshire Council, and named Abigail Corsie from Kinross High School in Perthshire as the overall winner of the first PrintIT! Scotland 2010 competition.

PrintIT! 2010 Winner Sees the Future of Print at Canon Expo

As PrintIT! Scotland gears up for its inaugural awards ceremony which will take place on 12th November 2010 at South Lanarkshire Council, Daniel Smith, PrintIT! 2010 winner from St Ives School in Cornwall was given a unique trip to see the next generation of print and imaging technologies at Canon Expo in Paris. In addition to other prizes awarded during the PrintIT! Awards Ceremony at Ipex 2010 in May, Daniel and his teacher were treated to the all expenses paid trip courtesy of Canon UK.

Research Reveals the Positive Impact of PrintIT! & Reconfirms Objectives are On Course to Address the Industry’s Future

61% of PrintIT! students sought work experience in print & 87% of teachers report PrintIT! provides a good insight into the future career options of the industry

As PrintIT! kickstarts its sixth year for the 2010/2011 academic year, research undertaken by Proskills amongst participating PrintIT! schools has provided confirmation that the initiative is meetings its objectives of increasing the profile of the printing industry, and attracting potential young talent to consider a future in print. According to the survey results, 87% of teachers believed the PrintIT! programme provided a good insight into the Printing Industry and its many varied career opportunities. In addition, 61% of past PrintIT! students had enjoyed the course so much that they had gone on to seek work experience in print-related organisations. These encouraging figures come at a time when the PrintIT! team are set to launch its sixth competition to schools across the country, which includes a number of new elements to the coursework.

PrintIT! Introduces New Chairman to Spearhead Initiative through the Coming Year

PrintIT! has today announced that Wayne Barlow, Director-Professional Print of Canon UK has been named as the new Chairman of PrintIT!  Wayne takes over the chairmanship from George Clarke, Managing Director of Heidelberg UK and President of Ipex 2010, who has held the post for the past year.  The handover took place at a special sponsors and supporters reception, held after the PrintIT! Awards Ceremony during Ipex 2010.

The annual PrintIT! Awards, now a well-established event in the print industry calendar has taken place at Ipex, the global event for print, publishing and media. Attracting a host of industry figures, print professionals and finalist schools, the event celebrated the hard work and achievements of the thousands of students who took part in this year’s PrintIT! competition. During the event Daniel Smith, a pupil from St Ives School - a specialist technology college in Cornwall was awarded the overall prize of a state-of-the-art iPad and an exclusive all-expenses paid trip to Paris to attend Canon Expo in October.

PrintIT! Looks to Ipex 2010 to Celebrate Britain’s Best Young Talent and Launch PrintIT! Year Six

With the final judging of the 2009/2010 competition entries complete, PrintIT! is looking to Ipex 2010 to join with industry supporters and sponsors to celebrate the best of Britain’s young talent, honour all the finalist students and their teachers, and present category winners with individual awards as well prizes for their schools in the form of print-related equipment.
