Wrights chooses Fujifilm ‘lo-chem’ CTP and workflow for ongoing expansion

Release date: 26.08.2010

Combination of state-of-the-art ‘lo-chem’ CTP solution and XMF workflow results in massive savings

Wright Printing Services Ltd, based in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, has invested in a wide range of equipment and software from Fujifilm, supplied through Offset Supplies. As part of an ongoing development plan, the trade printer completely overhauled its CTP and workflow systems, installing Fujifilm’s latest ‘lo-chem’ CTP solution, the multi-award winning FLH-Z 85 ‘ZAC’ processor with Brillia HD LH-PJE plates, as well as Fujifilm’s XMF cross-media workflow and an Epson proofer.

“As part of our business expansion, we were looking at systems and products which offered greater capacity and better efficiency, and in doing so tested a number of solutions on the market,” says Ian Wright, managing director at Wrights. “Fujifilm’s XMF workflow, combined with its ‘ZAC’ processor and LH-PJE plates, proved to be the most reliable and productive solution to complement our 15 web and sheet-fed presses, so deciding to go with Fujifilm was an easy decision to make.”

Ian also comments on the cost and environmental impact the recent installation has had on the business: “Since using Fujifilm’s low-chemistry processor and plates, our chemistry usage and waste has been dramatically reduced. This has helped to significantly reduce our environmental impact as well as lower our costs.”

Wright Printing Services uses Fujifilm’s XMF workflow to output to its CTP devices and Epson proofer, taking advantage of the automatic changes in imposition that XMF handles at the click of a button with its adaptable, integrated JDF imposition capability. Ian continues: “XMF is much more reliable and user friendly compared to our previous workflow, which means the margin for error has been reduced massively and we therefore have much less to worry about when preparing our plates and proofs.”

Fujifilm’s XMF is unique in being built from the ground up around JDF and the Adobe PDF Print Engine. With Fujifilm's image processing, imposition and intelligent automation technologies built-in, XMF improves the control of quality across multiple print processes, increasing efficiency and productivity, ensuring colour consistency and optimising print production.

The FLH-Z is a CTP plate processor designed primarily for use with Fujifilm Brillia HD LH-PJE and HD LH-PLE positive working thermal CTP plates. It incorporates Fujifilm’s latest intelligent ‘ZAC’ microprocessor control system which helps to achieve consistent, high quality plate production with minimal chemistry usage – therefore also getting the environmental “tick” next to its name.

“Fujifilm, together with Offset Supplies, has so far played a major part in our ongoing development plans, and we are very pleased with the results we’ve seen already – accuracy, quality, consistency and productivity concerns are things of the past,” concludes Ian. “We are continuously liaising with Fujifilm and Offset Supplies regarding new products and technologies that may help to drive our business forward even further, and we’re confident that they’ll continue to play a big part in our ongoing development.”
