Swedish printer Sandén, Scandinavia’s largest producer of lottery and bingo tickets, has improved significantly the throughput of work in its finishing department following the installation of an Autobond Mini 74 TPHS. However, the first few weeks of the laminator’s operation proved more challenging than expected, as service manager Mendo Damevski explains.

The redesigned Mini laminators from UK manufacturer Autobond are proving to be popular in France, where two of the three machines installed during November have been this model. Autobond has been able to reduce the footprint of the laminator significantly in the new version, making them even more appealing where factory space is limited.

One of Ireland’s leading sheet-fed printers, Turner’s Printing Company, has installed an Autobond Mini 76 T in order to bring laminating in-house. The Longford based printer, which was formed in 1836, operates ten-colour Komori and KBA B1 presses, as well as a Heidelberg six-colour B1 Speedmaster plus B3 multi-colour facilities. The volume of print requiring lamination was high, explains managing director Warren Turner, the sixth generation of the family to run the business.

Autobond laminators continue to ‘sell like hot cakes’ in Saudi Arabia, according to Mohammed Karram, vice president for machinery and projects at local agent Alkhorayef Printing Solutions. Three laminators are currently on the high seas and are due for installation during December and January.

The Derbyshire factory of UK laminator manufacturer Autobond continues to be a hotbed of research and development and the latest product off the shop floor is the CC 105 cross cutter, which can be used with any make of laminator or encapsulator. To prove the point, the first machine to be built is due to arrive during December at a printer in Canada, which is fitting its stand-alone CC 105 behind a Billhofer laminator.

Autobond continues to strengthen its European network of distributors with the appointment of the Italian distributor for Heidelberg, Macchingraf Srl, which will represent its extensive range of industry leading laminators throughout Italy from December 1^st. Lorenzo Ariberti, product manager for finishing equipment, says that the Milan based company has already been approached by several customers looking to bring laminating in-house.

When USA printer Odcombe Press decided to invest in a new sheet-fed laminator, the company knew exactly where to go for advice. The La Vergne, TN, based company, about 20 miles from Nashville, is part of the Haynes Publishing group and the UK division had been operating Autobond laminating equipment for the last 25 years at its Somerset premises.

Brussels sheet-fed commercial printer Paperland has improved the turnaround of laminated work following the installation of a Mini 76 T from UK manufacturer Autobond. The company previously sent all work requiring laminating to local trade finishers.

One of Europe’s largest producers of CDs, DVDs and vinyl LPs, Optimal Media Production GmbH in Röbel, north-east Germany, has been able to improve significantly the productivity of its printed products division following the installation of an Autobond Mini 76 TH laminator. The company’s comprehensive pre-press, printing and finishing facility handles work ranging from business cards and 12 inch labels to complex disc packaging and premium book projects, outputting around 120 million printed items a year.

Autobond is demonstrating four sheet-fed laminators throughout the exhibition and this includes a Mini 76 TPH running in-line to a new spot UV coating unit. Autobond is pioneering the use of inkjet printed, variable spot UV varnish in-line with matt lamination, which it believes is one of the major breakthroughs in post press technology at Ipex 2010.
